Indian Squad for World Cup 2023: Team India announced for World Cup, place for KL Rahul and Kuldeep, Chahal did not get a chance

The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 will start on 5 October, while the final match will be played on 19 November. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar and captain Rohit Sharma announced the squad for the World Cup. The Indian team will play its first match in the World Cup 2023 season on 8 October. This match will be played against Australia in Chennai.

Team India Squad for World Cup 2023: The Indian cricket team is currently playing in the Asia Cup 2023. But after this, the team has to play the ODI World Cup 2023 in their own home. For this, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad. The Indian team will play the World Cup under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma.

ODI World Cup 2023 will start on 5 October. The opening match will be played between defending champions England and New Zealand. New Zealand had lost to England in the final of the last World Cup. This time the title match of the World Cup will be played in Ahmedabad on 19 November. For the World Cup 2023, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and Captain Rohit Sharma announced the squad of the team today (September 5). The selectors have given place to 7 batsmen and 4 all-rounders in the team.

Rohit Sharma (Captain), Virat Kohli, Jaspreet Bumrah, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya (Vice-Captain), Shreyas Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Mohd. Shami, Akshar Patel, and Shardul Thakur.

Surprised by KL Rahul’s name?

The biggest news in Team India’s squad is that KL Rahul has found a place, he has been deemed fit to join the team ahead of the World Cup opener against Australia on 8 October in Chennai. Rahul suffered a thigh injury in the IPL earlier this year, however, he is training at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and is likely to join Team India in the upcoming matches ahead of the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. Sanju Samson is out due to Rahul being in the team.

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar said, ‘KL Rahul is fit, but there is a minor problem before the Asia Cup. He has recovered from this. He is an important player for us and we are happy to have him on the team. I think this is the most balanced team for the World Cup.

Prasidh Krishna and Tilak Verma did not get the place

Tilak Verma and Prasidh Krishna, who were included in the squad in the Asia Cup, have also been left out. The responsibility of Team India is on Rohit Sharma. The Indian team is equipped with stalwarts like Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav. Apart from this, Ishaan Kishan has also got a place. Emphasizing options in batting, all-rounders Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Akshar Patel, and Shardul Thakur have also been included in the squad.

Fast bowling was handed over to Bumrah, Shami, Siraj

Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj will take charge of the fast bowling. Apart from this, Shardul Thakur is also the fourth pacer. Kuldeep Yadav is the main spin option of the team. He has got preference for Yuzvendra Chahal.

India-Pakistan match will be held on October 14

This is going to be the first time that India will host the ODI World Cup alone. Earlier it had jointly hosted the 1987, 1996, and 2011 World Cups. The Indian team will play its first match in the World Cup 2023 season on 8 October. This match will be played against Australia in Chennai.

The great match between India and Pakistan will be played on 14 October. This match will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Let us tell you that just before the World Cup, the Indian team has to play a 3-match ODI series against Australia in their own home.

10 venues, 48 matches, 45 days

For the World Cup 2023, this time 48 matches will be played within 45 days. For this, 10 venues have been fixed. The Indian team will play its first match against Australia on October 8 in Chennai. The first semi-final will be played in Mumbai on November 15 and the second in Kolkata the next day. There will be a reserve day in both the semi-finals. The final match will be held in Ahmedabad on November 19, while November 20 will be the reserve day. All three knockout matches will be day-night.


There can still be changes in the team

There is still scope for change in the teams of all the other 10 countries including India. If a country wants to make changes in its announced team, then it can make changes till 28 September without the permission of the ICC. But by September 28, it will have to reveal the final 15-member team. After this, changes can be made only after the approval of ICC.
